Celebrating Ireland today

Room 5 enjoyed singing and doing a bit of a jig to two great Irish songs - The Rattlin Bog and Irish Music.

We were very impressed by the fast moves of the dancers in 'Riverdance'. This version is a little bit different to the one we watched today. It's particularly impressive at about four minutes when there is a long line of dancers together.

We have been learning how to research various species of spiders after reading the story 'Charlotte's Web', so today we all researched one thing about Ireland.

We found out that:
Dublin is the capital city
The flag is green, white and orange
The population is about 4.75 million (similar to NZ)
They like to eat black pudding (blood sausage)
They are good at sports like Gaelic football, rugby and horse racing
A leprechaun is a mischievous elf like creature who reveals where treasure is hidden
The odds of finding a 4 leaf clover are 1:10,000 3 leaf ones

and much more ...

This is the Irish folk story that we enjoyed with our little Room 3 buddies today.
